The mind- blowing story of the daughter of a rejected maid servant turned first female president gave me hope. The rather sad yet captivating story of a young single mother who peddles on the streets to take care of her little ones taught me resilience. The distressing story of a fragile, broken yet strong forty- something- year- old woman who peels cassava, earning a paltry sum of fifty pessawas per day, in order to look after her family taught me the salient value of persistence. For the later, her greatest regret was her inability to put all of her children into the tertiary institutions. You see, when a woman succeeds, her family succeeds, when her family succeeds then, the society and the nation as a whole succeeds. The success of women has a rippling effect! I have thus come to the striking epiphany that there is a lot that we got to do in the field of female empowerment.
This whole talk about female empowerment is definitely not a quest for superiority.
It's rather one that seeks to steer attention towards the need for women's employment, health and education. Nevertheless, it's also about gender equality. Indeed, women are the largest untapped reservoir of talent, unmeasurable potential and power. It is accordingly imperative that we cultivate in to our young girls the belief that they can be what and whoever they want to be and that their contribution is pivotal for the society.
A lot has been done by our predecessors yet a lot remains undone. Let’s come together to make a change and complete another revolutionary chapter in world's history.

I belive that if these underprivileged women are employed, educated even for a year and come to the full awareness of their health matters, we would be churning out the greatest leaders, trailblazers, astronauts and doctors ever, the list is simply endless. Women seek to positively impact the lives of their children and those around. There's always this drive in them to push their children to conquer and do what they couldn't achieve in their lifes. It's a feminine trait!
Kofi Annan truthfully said that there's no tool for development more effective than the empowerment of women. Women issues such as early marriage, maternal mortality, sexual harrassment, illegal trafficking and prostitution should thus be an integral part of world and national issues. My heart quakes and shakes whenever I hear of women being marginalised and downplayed upon more especially in our rural areas where eerie taboos concerning women still exist. The matter of unequal pay to men and women for the same work done , in this 21st century is just heart- breaking. The constant disbelief and doubt in women's ability sadens me to the core. These discriminating questions are still being asked: why make her the C.E.O.? why promote her when she is one day going to give birth and have kids to cater for? For women already at the top or near there, dare not become pregnant. There honestly should be a paradigm shift in our attitude as well as our mentality and a broader look at the spectrum. Men and women are equally vulnerable and important. Hence, the pursuit for women empowerment further calls men to support women to rise up and be freely independent; for men and women are like the undisposable, complementary parts of the body.
Still smiling in the dream world...
It's a season of giving. Put a smile on someone else's face. Be the expression of God's kindness.
Thanks for stopping by.
