There are those times when you are reading someone’s biography and it touches you so much. Gosh! You even wish that that was your life. A life well-lived, they call it. Kofi Annan can be said to be one of Africa’s biggest success story. His leadership skills is top-notch; a true role model he is and he was a former secretary-general of the United Nations. Reading dear Kofi’s biography has massively inspired me. Honestly, it does not matter where you start or where you are.
Education is key
He studied economics at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and technology. Then pursued further education at Macalester College, university of Geneva and M.I.T. Sloan School of management. As he rightly said, ’knowledge is power. Information is liberating. Education is premise of progress, in every society, in every family’. He also once said, ’education is a human right with immense power to transform. On its foundation rest the cornerstones of freedom, democracy and sustainable development.’ He has been awarded with boatload of honorary degrees.
Peace brings development
He championed a campaign for global peace which was extremely successful. In 2001, he and the United Nations were jointly awarded the Nobel Prize for peace. If you have peace wherever you are, personally I believe that that in itself is empowerment catalyst.
Female empowerment
Truly, there is no tool for development more effective than the empowerment of women. When women thrive, all society benefits.Despise not the small beginnings
Who could have ever imagine a black man from Africa, Ghana taking up the position that Mr. Anan held. Due to his diligence and hard work, he rose through the ranks and became the seventh United Nations secretary-general. He believes that we are one human race despite differences in religion, languages and coloured skin.Never stop the good work
After serving his term of office in the UN, he did to recline in his chair and watch time swing by. He established the Kofi Annan foundation which works to promote better global governance. He was also part of the joint special envoy to Syria.FOREVER IDOLISED, KOFI ANNAN
...still smiling in the dream world.
